Apple iPhone unlocked
Thursday 15 May 2008
Sources have revealed that the iPhone is to spread its wings by the end of the year. Reports suggest that it will be available in Australia, Canada, India, Singapore and the Philippines. This move breaks away Apple’s usual exclusive agreements. However, the SingTel version will be exclusive to the Philippines and Singapore. Optus is going to be the service provider in Australia and Rogers the provider in Canada.

The question we have at ND Mobiles is will they be taking the 2G iPhone or wait for the updated 3G version? Given the timescales and the fact the 2G stock levels are depleting, our guess is that they will wait for the 3g version.

Revenues from the iPhone have been less than expected and Apple have had their backs to the wall due to reports of Iphone handsets being unlocked and sold in Austria and Germany during 2007. Then in February of this year, 10% of the Iphone’s in China were being operated unlocked. France are the only country legally allowed to seel the iPhone unlocked and they are supplied by Orange. However, due to disappointing sales across Europe, Apple have allowed Telecom Italia Mobile to sell the handsets unlocked.

With websites offering to unlock the iPhone for a mere £29.00 and the massive demand for the 3G iPhone, Apple will have needed to make them as secure as possible.
